Welcome! I’m SPIKE LOMIBAO, owner of John Lomibao Design, a certified minority- (MBE) and LGBT- (LGBTBE) owned business enterprise in California.
I’m an enthusiastic, good-humored design entrepreneur, and have a track record of helping build compelling visual stories and brand experiences for mission-driven organizations and companies. I have an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School. I’d love to bring my creative, critical thinking, and technical skills into collaborations that seek to realize effective brand and marketing strategy development.
I’m a wise choice as a creative design partner to solve complex business problems because I facilitate memorable, human-centered, end-to-end communication experiences with passion, playfulness, and practicality. > “I’ve had the distinct pleasure to work with Spike on the design of two logos over the past 13 years—I was so incredibly pleased the first time that I thought of him immediately when I needed someone again. Spike has a gift for asking the right questions to guide you in your creative process and help you discover exactly what you want and need. He is also incredibly skilled at striking that perfect balance between running with your vision but influencing in all of the right places—a rare ability. I couldn’t be happier with both of the logos that Spike has done for me—I recommend him highly and welcome any requests for a reference.”
—Nico Gallegos, Owner & Head Coach at Ohlone Archery
> “Spike designed our first professionally produced Annual Report 6 years ago. Every October I call him up and pray that he is still available to help. His warmth and humor are such a helpful part of what is a multi-step back and forth process of producing the 16 page reports that he midwifes each year. Spike listens well, loves to brainstorm, and brings out into the open what we want to get across. Then he goes about doing his design, graphic, and visual magic. People rave when they see our reports!”
—Bob Houghteling, Executive Director at Bay Area Teacher Training Institute
> “Spike is a terrific designer and, more importantly, someone who really listens. For the projects we’ve worked on together, he always began with deeply listening to the challenges being addressed and the ways in which excellent design could address them. His process is thoughtful, probing and interactive. He’s very open to feedback and he always delivers when promised. In the final analysis, Spike produces beautiful designs that exceed expectations and deliver on the results needed. I’d work with Spike again and again and again.”
—Derek Gordon, Board Member at openhouse
> “I have had the great pleasure of meeting Spike through the Northern California Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild and then hiring him to help me on various projects for my graphic design studio. Spike is a wonderful communicator, a creative designer and thoroughly detail-oriented. He’s also very personable and fun to be around.”
—Hae Yuon Kim, Creative Director, Designer at Tobi Designs
> “I was fortunate to work with Spike on a pro bono brand identity project with Taproot. I appreciated him for his problem solving and patience on the project. He was always asking the most insightful questions and was a strong listener at all times. And when it came to creative execution I couldn’t have asked for a better creative partner. His quality of work will stand the test of time I’m sure. I would certainly look to Spike again for brand and design work.”
